Dippy eggs


Jenny is loving dippy eggs lately. To all of you that are like "what is dippy eggs?" well, that is a term we picked up in Altoona. Not sure if I can give the North credit for this slang term or maybe just Altoona? (they do have their own collection of hilarious slang in Toon town) Anyway it was the first place we had ever heard a fried egg called dippy egg. It makes sense to me since you dip your toast into your runny egg yolk. (yeah.... they are eating toast in Altoona and NOT biscuits) And since dippy eggs makes sense, then I like it. So it has stuck with me, even though I might use it in a sentence like this "Will I'm fixin ta make sum dippy eggs ....yownt sum?"
What can i say? I've spent the majority of my life down here in the back woods.
Anyway Jenny will eat her dippy egg and toast covered in yellow goo and say "uuuuuuum, yummy!"
(but she says that about every kind of food she sees-- even Clifford's dog bone on TV)
(Jenny has to eat toast like a yankee cause her momma don't know nothin bout makin no biscuits)

Another Altoona word that I decided to switch over to is scrapple. Not that I EVER buy it, but I was told that scrapple is similar to souse meat. Except it should be noted that, unlike souse, people in PA actually really like scrapple. You might say that they like it as much as we like sausage. (Don't really know anybody who digs souse meat)
If you southern girls don't know what souse meat really is, take a look in the deli meat section next time you're grocery shopping. There it will be next to those square slices of processed ham with specks of cheese stuck in it---(man did I used to dig that ham as a child.) From what I've been told, souse meat/scrapple is like all the leftovers at the end of a long hard day in a slaughterhouse. Uuuuummm Yummy! Therefore once again I like the word scrapple cause it makes sense..... it is "scraps". Besides, the word souse just really makes me queasy.Souse meat before it is deli sliced............. and eaten cold on a sandwich?


Scrapple before it is fried..... and apparently eaten like a sausage patty?

Don't get any ideas ----let me make it clear that I am NOT craving either of these due to the bun in the oven.

Definitely need to try the dippy egg with Fisher (thanks for the idea), but I'm going to leave the scrapple to you - ugg!
